This course provides interactive, self-paced training in Federal benefits for new employees - Federal Employees Special Retirement System (FERS Special), Social Security, Thrift Savings Plan, annual and sick leave, flexible spending accounts (FSAs), and insurance. You will learn how to choose the best options to meet your needs and how and when to make elections.

Federal benefits expert, Debbie Mason, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional, also provides a step-by-step guide for you to begin a plan for saving and investing to meet your financial and retirement goals. You will learn how to:

  • Evaluate and choose the best insurance for your needs (FEHB, FEGLI, FEDVIP, LTC)
  • Benefit from "tax smart" savings (e.g., TSP, TSP Roth, Roth IRAs)
  • Choose investments for the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) and other savings.

You can use calculators within the course to compare tax savings on contributions and withdrawals for original TSP and Roth TSP to help you choose whether to use the TSP, Roth TSP, or both.
